Virginia is looking for a PR firm with travel media-relations experience.
According to odwyerpr.com, Terry Minor of the Virginia Tourism Authority said the state’s tourism entity has worked with firms on a project basis but noted that the new RFP is broader in scope as it’s an ongoing contract to work with its PR staff. “This RFP is very involved and we’ve never needed one to the degree that we do now,” she told odwyerpr.com, noting PR work had been a part of some previous advertising contracts. Minor declined to provide a budget saying the Authority preferred to hear estimates from firms.
The RFP covers PR to promote Virginia as a travel destination through print, broadcast, online, social media, trade and other publications. The state has used the “Virginia is For Lovers” tagline for the past 40 years.
The state wants a PR firm with travel media-relations experience and has asked proposers to describe the average number of monthly interactions its staff has with publications such as Travel & Leisure, AAA World and Oprah Magazine.
A one-year contract with three year-long options is planned and proposals are due Jan. 15, 2010.
