John Quinn, a 30-year media veteran, creates Public Affairs Marketing campaigns at ABC affiliate WJLA-TV, Washington, D.C., while writing songs in his spare time. He recently recorded five new songs in Nashville and, to his surprise, they are now featured on WMZQ's "home grown artists" program.
Before WJLA, John worked in radio for 20 years as an Air Personality, Music Director and Program Director spanning Adult Contemporary, Urban and Country music formats in St. Louis and Washington, D.C. Originally from the Marlboro Projects in Brooklyn, he played in several area garage bands, managed a college radio station then left the Big Apple in 1976 for his first radio gig in Youngstown, Ohio. Three years later he received Billboard Magazine’s “Top Special Program” award for his radio show in Lynchburg, Virginia. After a near-fatal heart attack in 2003, Quinn decided to devote more free time to fun things. He picked up playing the guitar again and started a band at a church in Kensington, Maryland. That same year John began writing songs and later joined Nashville Songwriters International (NSAI).
