College advertising students from across the country were in Arlington, VA, this week to present their entries for the launch of a social marketing campaign to fight the dangerous abuse of alcohol by college students – also known as “binge drinking.” The National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) featured teams – including a team from George Washington University – presenting their campaigns to The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking and the sponsor of this year’s competition. This year’s competition is unique in that it is the first time participants will address a social issue to promote a positive behavioral change: the prevention of dangerous overconsumption of alcohol by college students.  And, the winning campaign came from Syracuse University.

The nation’s premier student advertising competition, NSAC showcases the talent and creativity of individuals who represent the future of the advertising industry. Out of the more than 140 schools that participated in the district competitions this spring, 18 teams advanced to final round where they presented their campaigns to executives representing The Century Council, the Advertising Council, and the American Council on Education (ACE), the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions.

The final round of the NSAC was part of the American Advertising Federation Conference 2009 and announcement that Syracuse won was made during the keynote luncheon.
