- Michelle Singletary, nationally syndicated columnist for The Washington Post and author, and Kate Perrin, CEO, PRofessional Solutions, LLC, were the 2009 Matrix Awards honorees at the annual Matrix Awards luncheon held May 14 by the DC Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC-DC) at the National Press Club.
Singletary’s award-winning column “The Color of Money” is carried by 120 newspapers and her third book, “The Power to Prosper: 21 Days to Financial Freedom” is scheduled to be released next year. Previously, she hosted “Singletary Says,” and she continues to do personal finance specials on TV One. She is a frequent guest on local and national radio and TV shows.
After 30 years in PR, Perrin started PRofessional Solutions, LLC, Washington’s only public relations temporary agency. Previously, she was director of public relations for The American College of Emergency Physicians and director of public affairs at Youth for Understanding International Exchange. Along with other women business owners, “The Boss Ladies,” she publishes The Capital Buzz blog.
"We are so proud to be honoring these two wonderful, accomplished women,” said Maurine Beasley, AWC-DC president. “They exemplify excellence for women in communications.
A past Matrix Award winner, contributing editor at Newsweek, regular panelist on "The McLaughlin Group" and author Eleanor Clift was the emcee for the annual event. AWC-DC also honored Amy Siebert, a junior at Gallaudet University majoring in Communications Studies, with a $1,000 student scholarship award, sponsored by PRofessional Solutions, LLC.
