Network with professionals and listen to Jack Martin, global chairman and chief executive officer at Hill + Knowlton Strategies, deliver the keynote speech, “Democratization of Data: From Research to Effective Communication,” at the Institute for Public Relations and the University of Maryland's Fifth Annual Grunig Lecture on Oct. 23 from 5-8 p.m. at the University of Maryland.

As CEO of one of the world’s largest public relations firms, Jack Martin will tell how an empowered public with 24/7 access to information has forced the communications industry to re-define itself.

“My lecture will help students and professionals understand the importance of research and gaining insights that can be put into action to help businesses succeed,” said Martin.

Leading up to the Lecture will be a series of 10 roundtable discussions hosted by professionals from organizations including the U.S. Department of Treasury, Edelman, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Lockheed Martin, Pepco and more. Discussion topics range from social media and sports marketing, to agency vs. corporate PR, communicating for the government, and effective communication strategies for Campaign 2012. The 10 roundtable-networking discussions will provide opportunities to interact with leading professionals and students in an intimate, small-group setting.

This is the University of Maryland, the Institute for Public Relations and the Council of Public Relations Firms’ premier networking event. The lecture series honors James E. Grunig, Professor Emeritus, and Larissa A. Grunig, Professor Emerita, of the University of Maryland.
