Patch.com announced the roll-out of social media heavy site design to five of their 900 community sties. According to Media Bistro, they started with the mobile sites. The new design will remind you of Facebook's news feed.

In true social media fashion, users will be able to create their own groups (of content or with other users), but “editors picks” will remain at the top of their feed. Group members can post photos, videos, events, messages and articles (not unlike other social media platforms) and the events can be sync with your digital calendar. The directory will also be in group format, and business owners will be allowed to “claim” their business.

According to Jon Brod, Patch CEO, in an interview with Media Bistro, they remain committed to journalism and keeping reviewed content at the top of each page.
