- Brotman Winter Fried Communications held a 40th anniversary celebration.  Attendees included (left to right) Kevin Allen (photographer, Impact Images), Steve Buckhantz (Wizards play by play on Comcast SportsNet), Chris Knoche (radio analyst for University of Maryland basketball), Chris Johnson (producer, The Mise Wise Show, 106.7 The Fan) and Charlie Brotman.

- Geoff Livingston, senior vice president of social media at CRT/tanaka, whose D.C., firm was acquired by the Richmond-based agency earlier this year, will be leaving the agency to pursue a new start-up in 2010. "The new entity will have a deep rooting in social responsibility. Since it’s not 2010 yet, it does not seem appropriate to talk about company X in depth," Livingston commented.

- Lipman Hearne adds Adam Shapiro as VP on its D.C. public affairs team. Shapiro will provide counsel and support to public affairs clients in the education sector, such as the First Five Years Fund, an advocacy group focused on improving early childhood education opportunities for at-risk children.

Shapiro had been Vice President at Widmeyer Communications. Prior to his work there, he served as Deputy Press Secretary for Governor Jim Hunt (D-North Carolina) and managed media productions for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Shapiro began his career in broadcast journalism and received an Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the Michigan Air National Guard’s mission over Bosnia.

- RMR & Associates reports that Robyn Sachs, president & CEO of RMR & Associates, has been named the 2009 winner of the Small Business Mentorship Award given by the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board and Department of Economic Development.   The award recognizes a business that has provided mentorship to small businesses in Montgomery County resulting in growth for the company.
