The November issue of Washingtonian magazine lists 50 great places to work in our area. On the list were Merritt Group and The Hatcher Group. The write-up for Merritt Group said the agency is a place where “employees feel challenged and thanked for their efforts – 80 % say the pay is higher than the industry average. They give back, too, with pro bono work and one volunteering day a quarter.” Regarding The Hatcher Group, Washingtonian stated, “The husband-and-wife-owned firm works for nonprofits that advance social change – whether trying to improve child nutrition or repeal capital punishment. Unusual in public relations: 40-hour weeks.” Ogilvy PR's DC office was listed on the Honorable Mentions list.
In the same issue, APCO Worldwide’s founder & CEO Margery Kraus was named to the magazine's Business Hall of Fame. The article noted that “Kraus never enters a meeting unless she is ‘more than prepared’, she says. ‘And I can’t begin to tell you the value of being under-estimated all the time.’” (In addition, Kraus was named the new chair of the Council of PR Firms.)
