On Saturday, Nov 22, FotoWeek DC’s gala evening at the National Geographic Society celebrated the culmination of FotoWeek DC's first annual festival of photography. It was a chance to connect with friends and colleagues toasting the photo contest award winners, and mark the occasion with an extraordinary group of talented photographers, enthusiasts of the medium, and generous patrons and sponsors - including master photographers, editors, art buyers, gallery owners, stock agency representatives, publishers, equipment vendors and other luminaries of the photographic profession.
The FotoWeekDC photography contest that was open to all professional, amateur and student photographers in DC, MD and VA awarded more that $37,000 in cash prizes. Judged by representatives from the media, arts, education and corporate world including Tipper Gore, photographer and social-activist winners were announced at the closing gala. Over 100,000 people were expected to experience what is certain to become an annual event that will attract visitors from through the world.
