Karen Riordan has resigned as president and managing partner of the DC office of Arnold Advertising - which is listed as the largest area ad agency, in terms of capitalized ad billings, in the 2011 Washington Business Journal's Book of Lists. Word on the street is that staff and clients have been told of her departure, which is set for the end of the month. She will not be replaced, and Woody Kay, managing partner and chief creative officer, who managed the office with Riordan, now will be in charge. Riordan, shown above during an appearance on NewsChannel 8, has been with Arnold for more than 14 years and has been president of the DC office for more than five year. She also was president of the DC Ad Club, as well as a member of the American Advertising Federation, the Steering Committee of Advertising Week DC, the AAAA Board of Governors for the Mid-Atlantic, and the Greater Washington Board of Trade. Riordan also is a member of the United States Travel Association and HSMAI.
During her tenure with Arnold/DC, clients included Amtrak, Choice Hotels International, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Kay joined Arnold DC in 2002 as chief creative officer. He has received recognition at all the major awards shows, including the ADDYs, CLIOs, Communication Arts, Cannes and The One Show, and has received the 4A’s O’Toole A+ Award for "agency body of work" at two different agencies. A two-time Adweek magazine Creative All-Star, he has also served on the Board of Directors of The One Club for Art and Copy.

Karen has done -- and continues to do -- an admirable job in her many roles with the DC Ad Club. I am sure that Arnold is sorry to lose such a terrific leader. That said, whatever organization she is going to next is lucky to have her.

This region has been lucky to have Karen's many talents. Selfishly I hope she stays in the area, but I know wherever she goes next will be lucky to have her!

I echo so many of the comments above. Karen is that rare combination of passionate, smart and real. She's very talented and I can't wait to see what's next for her.
